Keynote Topic at ENTER 2014:

Contextual Relevance in Online Travel

1. What excites you about working in the tourism industry?

Even after more than 20 years in that industry, I am still excited about the ever-changing combinations of such an emotional product as travel and the challenging technology behind its production, distribution and marketing.

2. What does your role at Amadeus entail?

In my role as Associate Director, Product Portfolio and Operations Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Europe I have to ensure that we have the right products available for our customers when they are needed. Working closely with our representatives in about 40 markets on the one hand and the teams in our central product development factories on the other hand, I have to define and implement our product strategy for all customer segments.

3. What is your motivation to speak at ENTER 2014?

Technology changes have always been a strong driver for change in this industry. Having attended some of the ENTER conferences in the past, I always enjoyed the inspiring interaction of people with different background but a common passion. I strongly believe that only with a permanent exchange on occasions like this, we will be able to keep our leading position in the industry.

4. Why do you think it is important today to provide contextual relevant information to tourists and how can it change their tourism experience as compared to before?

With the rise of the internet, travelers suddenly had access to tons of information of trillions of offers. Now, as people realize that this does not help to pick the right offer they start to feel overwhelmed by the growing number of brands, channels and offers. By providing the right information at the right moment on the right channel the traveler will be empowered to get the perfect travel experience.

5. How do you think your presentation will contribute to the knowledge about IT in Travel and Tourism?

It is my sincere hope that it might be interesting for a few participants to see the perspective of a global distribution system and one of the leading IT providers for the travel industry on some of the hot topics of the conference. And, even more important for me, my participation will help me to gain some new insights to bring back home to Amadeus.

Thank you Thomas for sharing your time and insights with us!
